This past January we continued to create an impact on underserved communities by baking dozens of goods for the Newton Community Freedge. The Freedge is an extension of the Newton food pantry and allows people to leave what they can and take what they need. When dropping cookies or breads off at the Freedge, it is awesome to meet those who are taking them. It is a truly incredible way to connect with members of our community, explain what we do, and follow through on our mission, making underserved communities feel special one cupcake, pie, and cookie at a time.
We have also been working on more plans to expand our impact beyond dropping off baked goods. We are working with Families First, an organization that “partners with parents to amplify their power so they can positively impact the lives of children and communities through groundbreaking programs”, to coordinate a Valentine’s Day cookie decorating party. This event will allow us to share the joy that comes from baking with family that inspired the creation of Give A Cake Bakery in the first place.
Also looking into February, Hank Phillipi Ryan, a Boston reporter with 37 Emmys, asked us to join the celebration of her new thriller ONE WRONG WORD at Newtonville Books by baking cookies in exchange for a generous donation. We are so excited to be a part of this event and are grateful for this unique opportunity to share our story with the community.
