Our Story

Give a Cake Bakery isn’t your typical bakery. There’s no storefront, no online shop, and no way to purchase our treats. That’s because everything we bake is made to be given away—to bring joy, brighten someone’s day, and build stronger communities through simple acts of kindness.

It all started with a 13-year-old girl, a passion for baking, and a desire to make a difference.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Julia Conroy found comfort in the kitchen, baking more cakes, cookies, and muffins than her family could ever eat. Rather than let them go to waste, she searched for a way to share them—and quickly realized that giving away her homemade baked goods to those in need was the perfect solution. The Somerville Homeless Coalition became her first partner, and from there, Give a Cake Bakery was born.

In our pursuit of the mission, Give A Cake Bakery Inc. was officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization on September 21, 2022. This milestone has enabled us to expand our reach and serve even more individuals and families in need.
